Bánh mì (pronounced Bun-Mee), otherwise known as Vietnamese subs, holds a special spot in Vietnamese food culture or we can say sandwich heaven . Kelowna has few options where you can find the best banh mi sandwich, from Rootbeer Pork Banh Mi at Boxcar Kitchen, to Caramelised Meatball at the Yellow Star Snack House.
The crispy baguette, often filled with pickled veggies and an array of deli meats, has been a cheap and easy-to-find staple in the city for years.
1. Sweet Chilli Chicken Bánh mì – BoxCar Kitchen
You can tell BoxCar’s bánh mi is perfection because it’s impossible to eat without leaving a trail of flaky breadcrumbs.

Beyond the quality of the sandwich, each bite of chilli chicken sandwich perfectly balances the cold cucumbers and bean sprouts, pickled carrots and shreds of cilantro. This is my favourite banh mi in Kelowna.

2. Classic Bánh mì – Yellow Star Snack House
Yellow Star Snack House in the Landmark district is the ideal spot for bánh mì. The outer edge of the toasted baguette cracks into your mouth, and the squishy portion beneath absorbs a layer of pâté along with slices of Vietnamese ham and roasted pork topped with crunchy cucumber, pickled carrots, and cilantro.

Each component is organised in a way that makes for an ideal sandwich.
