Ex Nihilo was created to craft wines that exceed expectations and embody the essence of our unique location in the Okanagan Valley. The name “Ex Nihilo” vineyards originates from the Latin word for “Out of Nothing”. The story of the Vineyards starts from the day when the founders of this vineyard, Jeff Harder and his fiancé Decoa were tasting wines in the Napa Valley, during this trip they came across the work of a sculptor. Ex Nihilo was a commission for the entrance of the Washington DC National Cathedral. Jeff said, if we ever have our own winery in the Okanagan let’s call it “Ex Nihilo”.

Things To Do At Ex Nihilo
Once we arrived at our destination, we were welcomed by Josh, and he was very warm and welcoming. He escorted us to our table in Chaos Bistro & offered us a glass of bubbles as a welcome gesture. Chaos Bistro is their multi cuisine restaurant which offers you a wide range of dishes made from 100% locally grown & organic ingredients. Ex Nihilo has some amazing wine tasting options available to educate their guests about
the wines. The vineyards have to offer their guests with Two different types of Wine Tasting options, “Signature Tasting” ($10) & “Memor Vivo Tasting” ($25). The Signature has a flight of 4 wines, the Memor Vivo has 6 wines which includes their signature wines as well. The name “Memor Vivo” is a literal translation to “Memory” in Latin which means that you can create some beautiful memories through this tasting.

We had an opportunity to take their Signature Tasting, and we tried their Pinot Grigio, Vampata Rose, Pinot Noir & Merlot. Amongst all I just loved their Pinot Grigio which showed some vibrant tropical fruits and floral characters like Honeydew, Jasmin, hints of lemon and Pear and pineapples along with a well-balanced acidity and sweetness, which made it a perfect summer drink.
Food & Wine
The food served at Chaos Bistro has a variety of flavours to present on your dish. And the staff at the Chaos Bistro is always up for helping you with the best food and wine pairing options which would create an impeccable dining experience for your perfect meal. The Warm Olives & Feta, and the Roasted Beetroot Tarter were the star of the night. The server suggests us to pair their Pinot Noir 2019 with the dishes and guess what! I still can’t forget the melange of flavours on my palate. So, one must not leave a chance to approach the staff for suggestions on food and wine pairings.

Conclusion
Our whole journey form Kelowna to Ex Nihilo was just as mesmerising as a weekend trip to the countryside. We got an amazing opportunity to taste some of the best organic wines form the Okanagan Valley. The entire team at the Ex Nihilo Vineyards is very warm and welcoming and makes you feel at home. For me it was just an impeccable experience to visit the vineyards and experience tasting the wines and dining in their restaurant gazing at the panoramic view of their lush green carpet of vineyards overlooking the restaurant.
